The Power Of Songs
Power Song Story with Ryan Horton - Refiner
I love the power of this song story because it dives into the rush of clarity and Holy Spirit that washed over Ryan Horton. In this power song story he shares a profound encounter with the song “Refiner” that turned an ordinary drive into an extraordinary spiritual experience. As the lyrics "I want to be tried by fire" echoed in his car, a personal revelation unfolded, leading him to question the depth of his faith and his readiness for spiritual purification.
This episode is not just a story—it's a reflection on the potency of music as a medium to connect with the divine and a prompt for listeners to find their own power song.
Ryan, thanks for sharing all you did on the big podcast, or the big podcast, the long podcast. This is really exciting for me because you're the first guest that I've had on for a power song story. The first one I did, I shared my own experience with the song. This one I wanted to start doing with guests that have a specific song that has such a powerful testimony, a powerful impact, that it's worth diving deeper into. So, man, I'd love to hear what you have on your heart with that. Yeah, man, I think.
Speaker 2:One song that really marked me I want to be tried by fire. Purify you, take whatever you desire, lord. Here's my life right. So that is a real dangerous and radical prayer essentially.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and I just remember being in my car one day and listening to that song and I get the those that know him will know what I'm talking about but I get the Lou Engle rock, like when I really start feeling the Lord, you know, in his presence and I just started rocking in my car chair and just started, you know, really sensing the presence of God, yeah, and so that song was playing and it just totally arrested my spirit. The question the Holy Spirit kept asking me in that moment was do you really mean this?
Speaker 2:Do you really mean it, and I think who was it? This guy named Brother Lawrence wrote a book called Practice in the Presence and in that book he talks about the meditation of the mind and how that he would declare something about God until it went from his head to his heart and became true. And I remember in that moment, in the car, rocking back and forth, seeing God, I want to be tried by fire, not just to be tried by fire's sake, I just man, I reverenced that. When you tell God something like that, I mean that's a big statement. But I want to be tried by fire for the purification of the heart.
Speaker 2:And I know what you can do with purity, I know how you view purity, I know how you look upon purity with great delight. Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? Those with clean hands and pure hearts, matthew 8,. Blessed is the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Like God is the reward of worship right. So it was in that moment I just had this real special encounter with God through that song, asking him to try me, but not just try me, but purify me as well.
Speaker 1:Wow, what a great story, man man. Thanks for sharing. Have you ever led that song since then? Never.
Speaker 2:It's personal devotion, brother. That's a devotion song, that's great devotion song.
Speaker 1:That's great dude. What a great story. Thanks for sharing that and the power and that's one thing I think to even encourage the listeners with like to really meditate on a song, to not just because we can passively hear songs or we can have a moment in time of worship with a song and then move on, but just to actually sit in it like that for a second and invite the Holy Spirit to speak to you through those songs. Amen. Outro Music.
